Quantum Art
Through hundreds of hours of conversations with physicists and researchers, immersing myself in the business, innovation environment and culture of Quantum industry, and giving tours of quantum facilities to over 1000 people. I have developed a visual language translating quantum concepts through the experience of viewing artwork.
The result is the first piece created in collaboration with QCORE, Montana State University’s quantum computing initiative, "The Shape of Uncertainty" which translates principles of quantum mechanics into visual form, while leaving space for viewers to explore and experience the work in their own way. Inspired by Schrödinger’s cat, the painting explores the idea that quantum states exist in superposition until observed. From a distance or during passive viewing, the horses read as a single quantum wave, unified and fluid. Up close, the wave collapses into distinct forms, reflecting how observation shapes reality. This duality mirrors the behavior of light, which exists simultaneously as particle and wave, highlighting the unseen structures that shape our perception of the world.
The piece also embodies a collaborative, living system. Viewers were invited to place small white dots above the horses, representing particles of light. These contributions connect participants across vast distances, from Japan to the UK, from students to government directors, entangling them in a shared experience. The painting becomes a global quantum field, demonstrating how art can drive human-centered innovation by fostering creativity, reflection, and public understanding of complex topics. The Shape of Uncertainty invites engagement with observation, connection, and possibility, revealing how creativity itself shapes the reality we inhabit.
